DREAM OF DEATH - Fireaxe
1998, promo CD produced by Fireaxe |
Fireaxe
is a one-man project that was idealised by the Californian Brian Voth.
The whole album was recorded at home unto an 8-track cassette recorder. Brian sings, plays all guitars, bass and handles the programmed percussion. The concept is rather complex roaming the desire to immune, live and destroy one's dreams. This work is made up of 10 tracks that are laboured on the hard'n'heavy side, distinguishing itself from the ordinary by the way its song structures are crafted. Despite being very limited by the quality and quantity of state-of-the-art recording and signal processing equipment at his disposal, he took the possible fruition. The opener THE RACK is a heavy-rocker, which contrasts slightly with the more expansive EARTHBOUND GODDESS. THE NEW GOD sounds a bit like early 70's Rush. Brian sings in a way that resembles the Scorpions occasionally. This feature is evidenced in UNHOLY RAPTURE. His skills are noticeable on the guitar parts, while his ability to play bass remains discrete and sometimes inaudible. The programming on the drum machine is average. The vocals are the weakest sign in the plot. This recording suffers from the poor production and occasionally irritating singing. Despite this, some good songs have been uncovered amongst its exaggerated 73-minute length. Carlos J Tavares
